According to a statement released by e.l.f., Alicia‘s brand will aim to “bring new meaning to beauty by honoring ritual in our daily life and practicing intention in every action.”

Alicia says that she and e.l.f. are “really creating something that I believe in.”

“For me beauty is about the soul and the heart and the spirit and what comes through you, comes out of you. And so it’s more than just the surface,” Alicia said. “It’s a deep conversation about who we are and who we want to be and where we’re going. It’s a passion of mine, a deep passion of mine that has been years in the making.”

Several years ago, Alicia made the decision to not wear any more makeup, and this YouTuber recently threw some shade at Alicia for launching a beauty brand.

Alicia‘s lifestyle beauty brand will be launching in 2021 – so stay tuned for more info!

James Charles Apologizes to Alicia Keys for Subtweeting Her Over Her New Beauty Brand

James Charles has issued an apology directly to Alicia Keys after he subtweeted her.

“People who do not wear makeup should not be coming out with makeup brands but that’s just my opinion,” James tweeted after it was announced that Alicia was releasing a beauty line with e.l.f. Beauty next year. He later deleted the tweet.

After fans discovered he was likely speaking about Alicia, as Alicia does not wear makeup, he looked into it more and discovered her brand is about skincare.

Years ago, Alicia made the decision to not wear any more makeup.

“Yesterday I posted a subtweet about how I thought some celebrities shouldn’t launch makeup lines. It was about @aliciakeys. A few years ago, she announced that she no longer would wear makeup, so I was bothered because many celebrities come into the beauty space as a cash grab without any actual passion and then leave,” James said. “Regardless of my intention with my tweet, it ended up being a microagression against someone I respect, so to @aliciakeys I owe a direct apology – I’m sorry. It wasn’t my place to gate keep this industry. I can’t wait to support and try out the products and I know the brand will be worth a billion in a few years.”

James recently spoke to some other drama in the YouTube community.

“My second band that I was in, was kind of like one of these projects that are put together by people, and they heard I sang and they were like ‘oh, maybe you could be a part of it’…it didn’t work out with me, but eventually they came out. I think their name was Little Women, but I was never part of that,” she explained.

If you didn’t know, 3LW stood for 3 Little Women, and was made up of Adrienne Bailon, Kiely Williams and Naturi Naughton.

The group would debut with their hit “No More (Baby I’ma Do Right)” in 2000, while Alicia debuted with her own global smash, “Fallin’,” in 2001.

Alicia also just dropped a powerful new song on Friday (June 19), called “Perfect Way to Die.”

During a recent interview on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, Alicia opened up about the song, saying it was inspired by the killings of Mike Brown – who was killed by police in Ferguson, Miss. – and Sandra Bland – who died of hanging in her jail cell in Texas after police stopped her for a minor traffic violation.

“You hear these stories, and you hear their stories in these lyrics and the devastating thing is that it’s never not going to be relevant,” Alicia shared. “And where we are right now, in the world and in this country, in American particularly, we are in a real, a real place that we can all see that this is the most major pandemic of all. This deeply rooted racism, this police brutality, this treatment of black people that is just completely unacceptable. To the point where daily daily we are seeing lives lost, people murdered for… nothing, nothing. For being black.”

Alicia Keys Explains Why She's Glad She's Past Her Twenties

Alicia Keys is on the cover of InStyle‘s July 2020 issue, available on newsstands and for digital download on June 19.

Here’s what the 39-year-old “Girl on Fire” singer had to say…

On why she’s glad she’s past her twenties: “I swear, I wouldn’t go back to being 20 if somebody paid me—it was literally the worst time ever. I wanted to fit in so desperately. I was so blind, so dependent on everybody else’s opinions, so uncomfortable, so unclear.”

On the direct link between being kind to others and being kind to herself: “I’m coming to the place now where I’m able to live more fully in my skin, my imperfections, my feelings, which are so hard to access, because we want to protect our heart, right? That’s what we’re all doing in some way. And I think my ability to access that place has brought a deeper connection to other people.”

On remaining hopeful when it seems harder than ever: “You know, we do a really good job of judging each other and assuming who people are when we don’t even know them. To me, the most important thing we can do right now is take a second to see and appreciate each other as we are. I really believe that we are it—we are what we’re waiting for, what we’re looking for. The way we raise our kids, the way we choose to be with each other, the way we face the world—that is how things will start to shift.”

Alicia Keys Shares Uplifting Message For The Class of 2020: 'You're Unstoppable'

Alicia Keys is offering some encouraging words to the Class of 2020 with her speech during YouTube Originals’ Dear Class of 2020 virtual commencement on Sunday (June 7).

The 39-year-old musician opened up in her video message, saying that she knows “right now it might not feel like there’s a lot to celebrate and that’s okay.”

“It’s okay to not be okay right now. I know so many people are not thinking about your time at school,” she shared, before touching on the protests that are going on across the world.

“You are showing that your generation is going to heal us. I promise to always be by your side, no matter where the fight for justice takes us next,” Alicia added. “The pain is not new but it feels different. For the first time, no matter what we look like or what we’re from, we can see so clearly what injustice looks like and now we can all choose how to respond. Change only happens when we educate ourselves and hold each other accountable and make sure we register to vote.”

She told the graduating class, “Thank you for being the inspiration for the world to see our collective humanity. I hope you can laugh, smile and allow yourself to reflect on all your accomplishments.”

“There’s nothing and no one that can stop you from changing the world. I see you. You’re unstoppable,” she concluded.
