The Roller Derby Scene in 'Birds of Prey' With Margot Robbie Was Made Up Of Real Pros

Margot Robbie got to train with real roller derby pros for that roller derby scene in Birds of Prey.

In an bonus clip from the digital release of the film (via), skating technical advisor Rachel Rotten and Margot opened up about training with real pros and just how they filmed the fight scenes.

“In the New 52 comic, there’s a roller-derby fight-club situation,” Margot shared. “I love that comic book. I kept saying, ‘We have to have roller derby, we have to have roller derby.’”

She added that during her training with the pros, she “definitely underestimated how hard it would be, because I thought, ‘Oh, I’ve done I, Tonya, I’ve done a lot of ice skating — throw some wheels on and it’ll be the same thing.’ It definitely wasn’t as painful as ice skating, I have to say.”

Margot‘s skating double Renae Moneymaker stepped in for the fight scene on the track.

“Doing a fight scene is difficult in its own right, but then you put roller skates on your feet and it changes everything,” she shared of the scene, and added that “Margot is so good on the skates that anything short of those bigger double gags, she was able to do just fine.”

Birds of Prey is out on VOD now.

Here's the Real Story Behind the 'Birds of Prey' Title Change

If you go to buy tickets to Birds of Prey online, you might notice that the film currently has a different title. Now, the real story behind the title change has been revealed.

While most fans assumed that Warner Bros. decided to change the film’s title after the movie disappointing at the box office during opening weekend, the studio actually had nothing to do with it.

Top theater chains like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark are all displaying the title as Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey to make it more clear that the film is about Margot Robbie‘s beloved DC Comics character.

Atom Tickets’ Alisha Grauso reports that the change is “for display/search purposes only for vendors and theaters, not an official title change.”

'Birds of Prey' Has a New Title After Opening Weekend Box Office Numbers Were Lower Than Anticipated

Margot Robbie‘s Birds of Prey, originally titled Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, has a brand new title.

It seems as if Warner Bros. thinks viewers may not realize that Birds of Prey centers around Harley Quinn, so they changed the name to Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, EW reports.

The film did not perform as well as expected in the box office during opening weekend after only earning just over $33 million. Projections originally estimated the film would earn $50-55 million during opening weekend.

In other Birds of Prey news, the title character apparently is supporting this democratic candidate for President!

Harley Quinn Revealed to Be a Bernie Sanders Supporter in 'Birds of Prey'

The new movie Birds of Prey hit theaters this past weekend and Harley Quinn’s political views were revealed in the film!

At one point, Margot Robbie‘s Harley is being attacked by a lot of random people who she has wronged in the past and now that she’s no longer dating the Joker, they are finally coming after her as she has no one to protect her.

Harley lists out the grievances that each person has with her and while revealing main villain Roman Sionis’ grievances against her, she says one of them is that she “voted for Bernie.”

Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan opened up to TheWrap about this moment in the movie.

“With the grievances we were just kinda coming up with different grievances, and I would throw some ideas in, and Christina Hodson would throw some ideas in,” she said. “I think the Bernie thing, I’ll give full credit to Christina on that one. And we all just chuckled at it so we thought, why not? And I think tonally and stylistically this is a movie that can afford that kind of stuff, and a little bit of self-awareness — or a lot of self-awareness, I should say. And not a lot of movies get to make a Bernie joke, so sure, let’s do it.”
