The Truth Behind Diablo Cody's Exit from the Madonna Movie Has Been Revealed

More details have been revealed about Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody‘s exit from the upcoming Madonna biopic.

A report surfaced on Friday (April 2) that Diablo decided to “quit” the project because Madonna was allegedly too difficult to work with. Now, a studio source says that the report is exaggerating the circumstances.

A source at Universal Pictures confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Diablo “completed her work and moved on to her next project.”

The source explained that Diablo and Madonna “recently delivered a completed draft of the film to the studio, which is looking at developing the current version ahead of production.” Films often go through re-writes and it’s unclear what will happen with this project.

Madonna will be directing the movie and she previously said that the film will follow her “struggle as an artist trying to survive in a man’s world as a woman, and really just the journey.”

There have been reports that Florence Pugh and Julia Garner are being considered for the role of the singer, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Diablo Cody Quits Madonna's Biopic (Report)

Diablo Cody has reportedly exited from Madonna‘s project.

The 42-year-old Juno screenwriter quit the upcoming biopic amid challenges working with the singer, The Sun reported Thursday (April 1).

The Madonna-directed movie, which is said to explore the beginning of Madonna‘s career,
was announced back in September of 2020.

According to the report, Diablo found Madonna “too difficult to work with,” as she is “very particular.”

Madonna and Diablo spent weeks working on the screenplay and made good progress. But Madonna is understandably very particular about how she wants it to be. She’s a perfectionist and because it is about her life, she is being very careful about how things come across. Diablo needed more freedom to be able to make it work and ultimately decided she couldn’t contribute any more,” a source told the outlet.

Universal is now reportedly on the hunt for a new writer for the project.

Madonna doesn’t need the money and isn’t going to let a movie get made which she doesn’t feel is authentic to her experiences,” the source added.
