Dolly Parton Explains Why She Hasn't Gotten the Coronavirus Vaccine Yet

Dolly Parton is holding off just a little longer until she gets the COVID-19 vaccine.

During a new interview, the 75-year-old entertainer – who donated $1 million to coronavirus vaccine research at the start of the pandemic – explained why she hasn’t gotten the vaccine yet.

“I’m not going to get mine until some more people get theirs. I don’t want it to look like I’m jumping the line just because I donated money,” Dolly explained to The Associated Press. “I’m very funny about that. I’m going to get mine though, but I’m going to wait.”

“I’m at the age where I could have gotten mine legally last week,” Dolly continued. “I turned 75. I was going to do it on my birthday, and I thought, ‘Nah, don’t do that. You’ll look like you’re just doing a show.’ None of my work is really like that.”

Dolly then reassured that she is definitely “going to get” the vaccine, and that she wants to encourage others to get it too.

“When I get it, I’ll probably do it on camera so people will know and I’ll tell them the truth, if I have symptoms and all that,” Dolly said. “Hopefully it’ll encourage people. I’m not going to jump the line just because I could.”

During another recent interview, Dolly Parton revealed she turned down receiving Presidential Medal of Freedom two separate times.

Damien Chazelle directed the commercial and Justin Peck oversaw the choreography, with many of the dancers featured from Broadway and off Broadway.

Squarespace worked with Dolly to rewrite the lyrics to “celebrate a new generation of entrepreneurs, and empower anyone with a dream to get started – the music is the star of the commercial.”

Plus, Dolly’s own side hustle, a namesake fragrance, will launch its website on Squarespace before the Super Bowl at DollyFragrance.com.

Dolly Parton Turned Down the Presidential Medal of Freedom Two Separate Times

Dolly Parton revealed that she has been offered the Presidential Medal of Freedom two separate times, and she turned it down both times.

“I couldn’t accept it because my husband was ill and then they asked me again about it and I wouldn’t travel because of the COVID,” she explained on the Today show. She added she has also now heard from Joe Biden‘s administration. “Now I feel like if I take it, I’ll be doing politics, so I’m not sure.”

“But I don’t work for those awards,” she continued. “It’d be nice but I’m not sure that I even deserve it. But it’s a nice compliment for people to think that I might deserve it.”

“I think everyone thinks you might deserve it,” Today show host Hoda Kotb added.

If you don’t know, the medal is given by the President to an individual who has made “an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”

Barack Obama Regrets Not Giving This Entertainer the Presidential Medal of Freedom

Barack Obama is looking back on his eight years in the White House.

During his interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the 59-year-old former president revealed that his one “screw up” is not giving Dolly Parton a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The medal is “awarded by the President of the United States to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors,” according to the White House.

Stephen asked Obama how the 74-year-old country music icon could not have a Medal of Freedom after all of her humanitarian work. Just recently, it was revealed that Dolly donated $1 million to help scientists develop a coronavirus vaccine.

“That’s a mistake — I’m shocked,” Obama replied. “That was a screw up. I’m surprised. I think I assumed that she had already got one, and that was incorrect.”

However, there’s still a chance that Dolly could be honored with a Medal of Freedom. Obama is hoping that President-Elect Joe Biden will be help to fix the situation when he takes office in January.

“She deserves one,” Obama said. “I’ll call Biden!”
