Lorde is making her return to the stage.
The 24-year-old Kiwi musician released her last album, Melodrama, in 2017 and has been very private about sharing updates about her highly anticipated follow up.
But based on a recent announcement from Primavera Sound, Barcelona’s annual music festival, it seems her hiatus may be coming to an end.

Lorde wrote an essay for Rolling Stone about her trip to Antarctica in February of 2019 and her experience while in the remote continent.
“I’ve been obsessed with Antarctica since I was a kid.” she wrote. “Antarctica’s high drama compelled me. I had to see it before it was too late. And because I’m a pop star, and the world is extremely unfair, I made a few calls, got several dozen booster shots, and I was off in search of the end of the world.”
“It’s very, very white, everywhere you look. There are hundreds of thousands of penguins. But there are also beautiful rocky beaches, which on a sunny day make you feel like you could have a cheeky swim, until you remember the salt water is at a temperature below freezing. You have to wear sunglasses, every single day. My pen froze in my bag. I peed into a bottle in the middle of an ice shelf, fully clothed, using a green plastic instrument called, unspeakably, a Pstyle. I ate so many dense, sweet energy bars I thought my teeth might fall out,” she continued.
“I stayed for five days, pitching a tent and camping outside, belaying on an ancient glacier, cruising in a helicopter looking for whales with a terse German scientist named Regina. I made a handful of calls home on an old landline — that was the closest I got to my phone. It’s an incredible place. I used to think the Met Gala was cool, or the VMAs. But there’s literally nothing cooler than Antarctica,” she added.
She added, “Scientists I met down there who had been making the trip south for 40 years pointed out parts of the Ross ice shelf they witness melting faster and farther every year.”

Lorde just surprised fans with a big announcement through her newsletter.
The 24-year-old singer, who has been away from social media and working on her next album, revealed that during the pandemic, she’s also been working on a photo book which highlights her 2019 trip to Antarctica.
“I’m here in your inbox because I have exciting news,” Lorde teased, before shooting down hopes that it was news about her album. “Not that news. Don’t get too excited.”
Lorde went on to open up about what the book is and what it means to her.
“When I went to Antarctica, I hadn’t ye starting writing again after finishing Melodrama. I realized after the trip that what my brain had been craving was a visit to an alternate realm. Albums live in their own realms in a way, and Antarctica really acted as this great while palette cleanser, a sort of celestial foyer I had to move through in order to start making the next thing.”
She adds, “The book is sort of a perfect precursor to this album in an abstract way, and it’s a cool little police of the Lorde cinematic universe for you to own if you’d like to.”

Lorde is getting candid on why she chooses to step away from the social media side of life.
During an feature with Interview magazine, in which she talked to Cazzie David, the 23-year-old Kiwi musician says that stepping away from Twitter, Instagram brought her back to life.
“Part of what made me peace out on social media, apart from feeling like I was losing my free will, was the massive amounts of stress I was feeling about our planet, about systemic racism, and about police brutality in this country,” Lorde confessed.

Earlier this year, Lorde did return periodically to social media to share with fans that she was still alive and speak out on the important issues, like police brutality.
Apart from also teasing new music, Lorde made major headlines after stepping out with Justin Warren, a 41-year-old Universal Music executive, who many have thought to be her boyfriend.
