The judges on American Idol are facing some criticism on social media tonight for what they’re telling the contestants, even from a popular former contestant.
Melinda Doolittle, who came in third place in season six and is one of the most beloved members of the American Idol community, spoke out about the judges on Sunday night (April 18).
Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan currently sit on the show’s judging panel.

Wyatt Pike, a frontrunner on the current season of American Idol, abruptly dropped out of the competition last week and there have been some rumors spreading about why he left the show.
A source gave a brief explanation about the exit and said that he left for “personal reasons,” but a crazy rumor about a fight on set spread around social media.

Luke Bryan is returning to the American Idol stage tonight (April 18) after missing last week’s show because of a positive coronavirus test.
The 44-year-old country singer and Idol judge will make his first live appearance on the show tonight, according to Variety.
The outlet is now questioning the timeline of Luke‘s COVID-19 diagnosis because current protocols say that you need to test negative for at least two weeks before returning to work.
“If that’s true, it leaves questions about the timeline of Bryan’s diagnosis and recovery, as it was only last Monday, April 12, that he announced on social media he had contracted the virus and would be unable to appear on that night’s episode,” Variety reported.
Under those protocols, Luke would actually have already tested negative last Monday, but he would have been unable to appear on the show because the two-week period had not ended.
It is believed that Luke had not been vaccinated ahead of last week’s absence and it’s unclear if he has received any dose of the vaccine at this point.
Paula Abdul appeared as a guest judge in Luke‘s absence and she raised eyebrows with a comment she made during the live show!
Luke Bryan is opening up about his marriage!
During an interview with theSkimm, the 44-year-old country singer and American Idol judge was asked to reveal the secret to his 14-year marriage with wife Caroline.
“Communicate and make-up sex,” Luke said with a laugh.
Luke and Caroline have been married since 2006 and share two sons – Thomas, 13, and Tatum, 10.
Also in the interview, Luke said that because of the pandemic, he hasn’t been able to meet his Idol coworker Katy Perry‘s 7-month-old daughter Daisy yet.
“I have FaceTimed on set with Katy’s precious daughter Dasiy Dove,” Luke said. “But I haven’t been able to do the baby fat, pinching the cheeks stuff yet.”

The American Idol judge and country singer revealed the news to his fans on social media, and will miss the first live show of the season.
“I’m sad to say I won’t be a part of tonight’s first live @americanidol show,” he wrote. “I tested positive for COVID but I’m doing well and look forward to being back at it soon.”

Country star Luke Bryan‘s fishing trip was cut a little short when he suffered a graphic injury.

On his Instagram Story, Luke explained, “My guitar tech, I invited Russ on a fishing trip and leave it to me, I ruined the fishing trip. But we’ll be back on the water in about 25 minutes.”
He also posted a video that shows a close up of the injury.

The brand new season of American Idol airs tonight on ABC and we have some details about the salaries of the three star judges and the host of the show, Ryan Seacrest.
If you don’t know, the three returning judges this season are Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, who all participated in last year’s season as well.
The reboot of American Idol debuted on ABC back in 2018. The show previously aired on Fox for 15 seasons before making the move to ABC.
