NFL Quarterback Dwayne Haskins Speaks Out After Being Released By Washington Football Team

After weeks of controversy, Dwayne Haskins has been cut from the Washington Football Team.

The 23-year-old NFL quarterback has been fined $40,000 for past violations of the sports league’s coronavirus protocols to keep players and staff safe.

Haskins was disciplined first after he invited a friend to his team’s hotel before a game and against last week after he was spotted at a nightclub without a face mask.

Coach Ron Rivera said, “This afternoon I met with Dwayne and informed him that we would be releasing him. I told him that I believe it benefits both parties that we go our separate ways. We want to thank Dwayne for his contributions these last two seasons and wish him well moving forward.”

Here's Why There's No Football Game on Thanksgiving Night This Year

There will not be a football game airing on Thanksgiving night, breaking a long-tradition of having three NFL games on the holiday.

The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers were scheduled to play a game on Thursday evening (November 26), but the game has been postponed because the Ravens are dealing with multiple positive COVID-19 tests this week.

The game has been rescheduled for 1:15pm ET on Sunday (November 29) and it will air on NBC.

“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution to ensure the health and safety of players, coaches and game day personnel and in consultation with medical experts,” the league said in a statement.

The NFL still aired two games on Thanksgiving Day – the Detroit and Houston game in the morning and the Washington and Dallas game in the afternoon.

The Ravens announced that a staff member has been disciplined for “conduct surrounding the recent COVID-19 cases that have affected players and staff.”

A couple months ago, three NFL head coaches were hit with huge fines of $100,000.

NFL's Washington Redskins Are Changing Their Team Name

Just a few days after it was revealed that the Washington Redskins would be reviewing their team name, it has been announced that the name will be officially changing this season.

The name change decision came after growing pressure from sponsors, including Fed Ex who has naming rights to their football field in Maryland, and Native American groups who disapproved of the name for decades.

“Today, we are announcing we will be retiring the Redskins name and logo upon completion of this review,” the team said in a press release. The team did not announce their new name at this time, but added that the coach and owner of the team are “working closely to develop a new name an design approach that will enhance the standing of our proud, tradition rich franchise and inspire our sponsors, fans and community for the next 100 years.”
