Patty Jenkins Dishes On 'Wonder Woman 3' & Why Fans Will Be Waiting A While

Patty Jenkins is opening up about a possible third film in the Wonder Woman franchise, just as Wonder Woman 1984 is set to premiere next week.

Speaking with the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director admitted that there is a plot in mind for the third film but she says not to hold your breath about when or if it will come anytime soon.

“It’s interesting, I actually came up with a story, and Geoff Johns and I beat out an entire story for Wonder Woman 3 that we were super fired up about, but I’ve never felt this way before as much as I do now,” Patty explained.

She adds that she isn’t sure if she’d return for it.

“I don’t think I’m doing it next and so I have to sort of wait and see where we are in the world, you know? What I wanted to talk about in [WW84] was very prescient to what I was feeling and what you were sort of feeling was coming. So now I’m not sure. So much has changed in the world.”

Patty did add that she “still love[s] the story, I’m sure parts of it, would come over to it, but…I’m trying to say [to myself], ‘Don’t decide. Don’t fall in love with anything. What would Wonder Woman do now? Like, what are you craving Wonder Woman to do now in this world?’”

Previously, Patty did share that Wonder Woman 3 would be the last in Diana’s saga.

Wonder Woman 1984 will be available in theaters and HBO Max on December 25.

Talk Show Host Graham Norton Accidentally Reveals Major 'Wonder Woman 1984' Spoiler

A talk show host accidentally let a “major, major spoiler” slip about Wonder Woman 1984 ahead of the movie’s debut on Christmas Day on HBO Max.

It all went down while Gal Gadot was making an appearance on The Graham Norton Show promoting the movie.

Graham Norton said, “‘Wonder Woman’ fans rejoice because in this outing we get to see the invisible plane. Well we didn’t see it obviously, it’s invisible. But the invisible plane is in it.”

Gal quickly retorted, “I don’t know what you’re talking about Graham… You just gave away a major, major spoiler.”

Graham then said, “We might cut that out,” but obviously, the show did not edit this moment!

There were rumors that Wonder Woman’s invisible airplane were briefly seen in the trailer, but this is the first time we’ve gotten official confirmation of the storyline.

In Wonder Woman lore, her invisible plane is her main form of transportation across longer distances.

Patty Jenkins Will Direct 'Star Wars' Movie 'Rogue Squadron' - Watch Her Announcement!

Patty Jenkins has huge news: she’s directing the new Star Wars movie!

The Wonder Woman director will helm Rogue Squadron, Lucasfilm announced on Thursday (December 10).

The story will “introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy,” according to the studio.

“It’s been a lifelong dream as a filmmaker to one day make a great fighter pilot film. As the daughter of a great fighter pilot myself, some of the best memories of my life are of seeing my father’s squadron take off in their F4s every morning, and hearing and feeling the awe-inspiring power and grace. When he passed away in service to this country it ignited a burning desire to one day channel all of those emotions into one great film. When the perfect story arrived in combination with another true love of mine, the incomparable world of Star Wars, I knew I’d finally found my next film. I’m extremely honored and excited to take it on, and grateful to Lucasfilm, Disney, and the fans for extending that thrill to me,” she said in a statement.

Rogue Squadron arrives in theaters Christmas 2023. Make sure to check out all the Star Wars shows that were just announced as well!

Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins Explains Exactly Why She Doesn't Like Joss Whedon's 'Justice League'

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins is not the biggest fan of Joss Whedon‘s Justice League movie (which has been involved in a ton of controversy lately).

“No, I think that all of us DC directors tossed that out just as much as the fans did. But also, I felt that that version contradicted my first movie in many ways, and this current movie, which I was already in production on. So then, what are you going to do?,” Patty said when asked her thoughts on the movie by CinemaBlend.

She continued, “I was like… you would have to play ball in both directions in order for that to work. The only thing I have done, and have always tried to do, is — I knew, when Zack was doing Justice League, where she sort of ends up. So I always tried… like, I didn’t change her suit, because I never want to… I don’t want to contradict his films, you know? But yet, I have to have my own films, and he’s been very supportive of that. And so, I think that that Justice League was kind of an outlier. They were trying to turn one thing into, kind of, another. And so then it becomes, ‘I don’t recognize half of these characters. I’m not sure what’s going on.’

If you don’t know, Zack exited Justice League halfway through and Joss replaced him. Zack’s version of the film includes a lot of new footage and will be released next year.

Wonder Woman: 1984 will be available to stream on HBO Max at Christmas.

'Wonder Woman 1984' Might Not Open on Christmas Anymore Amid Pandemic

Wonder Woman 1984 is currently scheduled to open in theaters on December 25, but now everyone’s not so sure amid the pandemic.

Pedro Pascal, co-star of the Gal Gadot-led film, which has already moved release dates six times (three since the pandemic), got candid about the reality of the release date in an interview with Variety.

“As far as movie releases are concerned and the tremendous way that the industry is having to improvise around these circumstances, nothing is surprising. We’re all getting used to things shifting day-to-day, hour-to-hour, you know? That’s what we’re all dealing with,” he revealed.

“I don’t think anybody can be confident of anything right now,” director Patty Jenkins told Variety.

“We just don’t know what the course of COVID is going to be like,” she continued, adding that she is “very hopeful” her film can still open in December.

“It feels totally possible to me,” she said.

“It’s unbelievably surreal. The biggest surreality about it is it’s supposed to be one adventure, right? You sign on to the movie, you write the movie, you direct the movie, you make the movie, the movie comes out, and you move on. Instead, like, I spent three years doing one thing, seven days a week, and then I just popped out of it to just nothing. No evidence of that [work]. I mean, that’s not true. I still work on, you know, Doritos bags bags and stuff like that all the time,” she said.

“For the longest time, the only people who’d seen the movie were the people who’d worked on the movie. We just showed our own agents. That was thrilling, to finally get to talk to people who didn’t know what the movie was. But it’s super weird to go from making a movie with such detail and being so excited for the experience of people getting to share in that with you, and then just going on to cleaning your house and cooking.”

“I don’t know,” Pedro Pascal went on to say about predicting the future of the film.

“That would that would be like assuming I know scientifically, economically, socially so many large things that are just way above my pay-grade. We have information, but still there’s so much more information to be had and sometimes the information feels like it changes so quickly. As maddening and as scary as that feels like to live with on a day-to-day basis, it does make sense, because this is new. Every time I’m like, ‘Well, why don’t we knoowwww?’ It’s like, because it’s a new virus. It just takes time to figure it out.”

In the meantime, Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot are teaming up on an entirely separate story that’s making headlines.

Gal Gadot to Star in 'Cleopatra,' Reunite With 'Wonder Woman' Director Patty Jenkins!

Cleopatra is coming to life!

Paramount Pictures just won an auction for a film that has Gal Gadot as Cleopatra, helmed by Patty Jenkins, Deadline reported Sunday (October 11).

The two also work together on the Wonder Woman film series.

The period biographical drama will be written by Laeta Kalogridis.

“This is the first major project package won by Paramount Motion Picture Group President Emma Watts in an auction that came down to Universal, Warner Bros, Netflix and Apple, I’ve heard,” the outlet reported.

“The film will be produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven, Jenkins, Gadot and her Pilot Wave Motion Pictures partner Jaron Varsano. Kalogridis will be the exec producer. Deal closed yesterday after Gadot — the film was her idea and generated by Pilot Wave — took part in a select number of Zoom pitches, accompanied by Jenkins, Roven and Varsano, with Kalogridis laying out the beats of an epic story that is based on the research she did after Gadot enlisted her.”

The report also notes that “there is an accelerated timetable and Paramount prevailed because the studio…created an urgency to mount a big budget theatrical release film as quickly as possible.”

There also appears to be a competition to get to telling the story of Cleopatra first.

“Sony Pictures and producers Amy Pascal and Scott Rudin have for years developed an adaptation of the Stacy Schiff biography Cleopatra. Angelina Jolie was attached and Lady Gaga was later rumored for a possible coronation following her Oscar-nominated performance in A Star Is Born. The list of potential directors has included James Cameron, Denis Villenueve and David Fincher. The film has been through many rewrites, last from David Scarpa. I hear most recently that Eric Roth is working on it, meaning there might be a footrace here between Sony and Paramount to go first.”
