Martin Bashir is the BBC reporter who interviewed Princess Diana back in 1995 and who has been accused of lying to her in order to secure the interview.
The infamous interview included Diana‘s mention that there were “three of us in this marriage” with Prince Charles, referring to his future with Camilla Parker Bowles.
An investigation into Bashir was launched last year amid allegations that he lied to Diana in order to get her to agree to do the interview. Now, Bashir is claiming that Diana herself was the source of “smears” against the royal family.
Diana‘s brother Earl Spencer says that he noted down some allegations against the royal family that were said during a meeting between the late princess and Bashir, two months before the interview aired.
New York Post reports that some of the “smears” included that the “Queen was ill and on the verge of abdication, that Prince Charles was in love with his children’s nanny, and that Prince William wore a Swatch watch that contained a bugging device.”
Leaked documents that were released by The Telegraph show that Bashir claims that he did not make up the “smears” during the meeting and that Diana made those remarks.
A long-rumored story about Princess Diana was just confirmed by a celeb last week.
