Ready Player One has dominated the weekend box office!

Since Friday, the film has made $41.2 million at the box office, though it really opened on Wednesday at midnight. Thus, the movie’s total gross this weekend comes out to $53.2 million!

Tyler Perry’s Acrimony came in second place at the box office in its debut weekend, and earned $17.1 million. Black Panther came in third place and is still doing so well at the box office, bringing in an additional $11.2 million.

Rounding out the top five were I Can Only Imagine and Pacific Rim Uprising, which made $10.7 and $9.2 million, respectively.

One of the most anticipated movies of the year is definitely Ready Player One and fans who go to see the film may want to know if they should stick around after the credits for an extra scene.

Well, we did that for you at an advanced screening of the movie and can report that there is nothing after the credits. Feel free to leave without worrying about missing anything!

Ready Player One officially hits theaters on Thursday (March 29) and the film is filled with so many pop culture references, some that are very obvious and others that only mega-fans will notice.

The Steven Spielberg-directed movie is set in 2044 and follows a teenager’s search for an Easter egg in a virtual reality game in the hopes of inheriting the fortune left behind by the game’s creator.

Halliday, the creator of the game, included tons of his favorite pop culture references throughout the OASIS. Players who have found some of the hidden references have a better shot at winning the keys needed to unlock the Easter egg at the end of the game.

Here’s what director Steven Spielberg and Tye had to say…

Steven, on the meaning of escapism: “Escape has its pleasurable and medicinal place, but total escape should not be a destination.”

Steven, on the nostalgia of the movie: “The movie isn’t really about nostalgia. Nostalgia is only the window dressing – out your side windows, but the movie takes place out your windshield. It’s a race. It’s a competition for control of the OASIS.”

Tye, on the deeper meaning of the OASIS: “I think it points a finger at this image we feel we have to live up to or strive to be. I think a lot of people, especially a lot of kids right now, are struggling with being themselves and embracing that, embracing who they actually are and coming face-to-face with what that means.”

Ready Player One is set to hit theaters on March 29 and tickets are on sale now. The movie currently has an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes with 26 reviews so far.

The upcoming Steven Spielberg-directed movie is based on the Ernest Cline best-selling book of the same name and stars Tye Sheridan, Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, and Lena Waithe.

Here is the synopsis: The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.

There was a hiccup during the world premiere screening as the sound went out at one point and the film had to be restarted twice before it started working again!
