Tamala Jones is opening up in a new interview about her exit from the show Castle.

The 41-year-old actress, along with her co-star Stana Katic, is being let go from the series after eight seasons.

“I actually found out on Friday. I got the call and I didn’t think it was going to be exposed so soon,” Tamala told Access Hollywood. “I thought, ‘Let the fans get through the season and then announce.’ But when it came out I was very much aware. And I feel good. I have had the biggest blessing being on Castle.”

Tamala said she never thought her character would be on the show for so long and was happy to make it to season five for the syndication deal. She also thanked ABC for being a family to her since her first television show.

“Eight is completion and new beginnings, so I think I’ll finish great,” Tamala said about leaving after season eight. “I feel good and if there is a season nine, I would love for the fans to continue to watch because I’ve been a fan the whole time I’ve been on the show. I think it’s an awesome show.”

Many of Stana and Tamala‘s fans have stated on social media that they will not continue watching the show without their characters.
