These 2 TV Shows Will Film This Summer Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

Two television shows are set to film this summer as mass shutdowns are still in place across America.

Tyler Perry Studios will open up to begin filming BET’s Sistas and The Oval.

Sistas will begin filming on July 8 for two-and-a-half weeks, with The Oval beginning their similar-length shoot on July 28.

Tyler Perry is “doing everything by the book,” a source tells Variety. He will reportedly fly the cast in his private plane from both Los Angeles and New York, where he will have them tested for Coronavirus before boarding. The crew is largely Atlanta-based, but they are taking precautions. Upon the cast and crew all arriving in Atlanta, they will be tested again and cleared to work when results are in.

Tyler Perry Sets Production Start Dates for Two Shows Amid Pandemic

Tyler Perry is setting a date.

The 50-year-old producer is setting start dates for U.S. shows restarting production in North America, Deadline reported on Tuesday (May 12).

Tyler‘s two BET series, Sistas and The Oval, will begin production one at a time at his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, beginning on July 8.

Sistas will go first according to the report, followed by The Oval on July 28. Both will film 22 episodes of their second seasons in two and a half weeks.

The plan involves “testing and sequestering the shows’ cast and crew on the sprawling, 330-acre lot of Tyler Perry Studios.”

The details of production are very involved: “The crew of Perry’s shows is primarily local, based in Atlanta. For the casts, Perry is providing his private plane. After they test negative pre-boarding, they will be flown from Los Angeles and New York to Atlanta. Everyone, including Perry, who is directing all episodes, will remain on the lot for the entire duration of the shoot. The existing structures on the lot, which once housed a military base, will provide enough housing for everyone working on each of the shows, so there will be no need for portable housing as originally thought,” the report continues.

“Upon arrival, everyone will be tested and quarantined in their rooms for four hours while they wait for the results. The cast and crew will be tested 4 times over the 2.5 weeks of the shoot, with Carlos Del Rio, professor at Emory Vaccine Center, serving as testing consultant.”

“While a July restart of production had been wishful best-case scenario for most US TV studios, they have been looking at late August, September and even October as more realistic target dates,” Deadline also noted.

Here is everything that’s been canceled or postponed due to the pandemic.
