Julia Louis-Dreyfus Opens Up About 'Veep' Being Her 'Lifesaver' During Cancer Battle!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus keeps it bright in an orange dress while striking a pose at the HBO FYC screening and reception for her hit series Veep held at the Landmark Theaters on Tuesday evening (August 20) in Los Angeles.

The 58-year-old Emmy-winning actress was joined at the event by her co-stars Tony Hale, Sarah Sutherland, Sam Richardson, Anna Chlumsky, Gary Cole, Timothy Simons, Clea DuVall and writer-director David Mandel.

At the event, Julia explained that working on Veep allowed her to direct her attention toward creating something great instead of getting lost in her cancer battle: “I’ve had a lot of personal challenges, losses, dear ones in my family, my own battle with cancer,” she reflected (via ET), explaining that she doesn’t know how she would have handled it all “had I not had this really close intimate relationship with all of these people.”

“We linked arms and we tried to do the most joyful funny thing possible as a team,” Julia added. “It was like being on a sports team… and that was the most buoying thing, to constantly be coming back to. It really helped me. It gave me something to laser focus on during my illness, and I needed to laser focus [on something] beyond my illness, so it was a life saver.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is currently featured on the special Emmys cover of Vanity Fair‘s September 2019 issue!

FYI: Julia is wearing a Carolina Herrera dress. Anna is wearing Camilla and Marc trousers.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Reflects on her Cancer Diagnosis & How She Feels Today

Julia Louis Dreyfus is on the special Emmys cover of Vanity Fair‘s September 2019 issue.

Here’s what the 58-year-old actress had to share with the mag…

On being cancer free after her breast cancer battle: “There is that moment that you have when you’re like, ‘Is this it for me?’ Because you know everybody here in this room is going to come across that moment in their life, but you never think you will…. I’m glad I got through it, but there’s a part of me that’s still a little frightened, you know?”

On her early comedy career, including a three year stint on SNL: “I didn’t fail, but I didn’t succeed. My ambition became clearer to me during that time. It helped me get my priorities in place in terms of what I was going to do moving forward and what I would not tolerate, [which was] nastiness or a culture of unhappiness. I didn’t want to work like that. I thought to myself, If I’m going to keep going, I’m not going to do this if it isn’t fun anymore. Fortunately, it became fun.”

On her post-Veep plans: “I realized I didn’t meditate this morning—like an asshole—but I should’ve because it’s useful. I just need time to think. So I’m thinking, formulating my next move and shit like that. Which is fun but it also requires thought. And sometimes maybe no thought. Maybe [I need time] to just look at those flowers and think: Wow, that’s amazing. What a gorgeous arrangement. I want to expand my creative universe here. I want to do stuff that maybe people wouldn’t think I would do.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Responds to Marianne Williamson's 'Yada Yada' Debate Comment on 'Kimmel'!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday (July 31), and reacted to hearing her Seinfeld catchphrase used by Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson during the 2020 Democratic Debates!

The 58-year-old Emmy winning actress, whose played ambitious politician Selina Meyer for seven seasons on HBO’s Veep, told Jimmy it was “bizarre” to hear the catchphrase of another of her characters — Elaine Benes’ “yadda, yadda, yadda” — come out of Marianne Williamson‘s mouth during Tuesday night’s (July 30) debate.

“I guess she’s going to pick me as her running mate,” Julia joked.

“I’ve learned a lot about politics, and I’ve got a sense of the true anxiety that probably a lot of these people feel, going in and trying sell themselves, as a candidate, as a brand, and make a stamp—as themselves but quickly,” Julia expressed about learning a lot about politics from starring in Veep.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus also talked about Tom Hanks‘ reaction to the final Veep episode, winning 11 Emmy Awards, being nominated again, having her name misspelled on her Hollywood Blvd. star, and being honored with the Mark Twain Prize.
