Julia Louis-Dreyfus Explains Why a 'Seinfeld' Reunion Isn't Happening

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is on the cover of the latest issue of PorterEdit, out now.

Here’s what the Veep star had to say…

On hiding some of her many awards under her bed: “I don’t want to keep them all in one spot – that feels sort of show-off-y. So I have some out…but others are tucked away under a bed.”

On joining the cast of NBC’s Saturday Night Live in 1982 – and why it was not a happy experience: “It was so misogynistic and not female-friendly whatsoever. But I was also 21 and unprepared to be there as a performer. A mash-up of those two very negative things made it a hard time, but I learned a lot.”

On why she has no desire to do a Seinfeld reunion: “I don’t want to sully it. It was pretty special and it’s been a long time now. You don’t want to f–k something like that up.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Says 'Veep' Is 'More Extreme' Due To Current Political Climate

Julia Louis-Dreyfus stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers and discussed how President Donald Trump‘s administration has made her hit political HBO comedy Veep seem “quaint” by comparison.

“It’s hard because it feels like this current administration, I won’t even name his name, but it feels as if he’s doing a better episode of the show than we are,” the 58-year-old actress told Seth.

“And except, of course, I don’t think it’s funny what he’s doing,” Julia continued. “I think the season reflects it. I think it’s more extreme. It’s more out there and what we’re doing this season had we tried it four season ago, would have been too outrageous, too broad.”

Julia also discussed how it felt to say goodbye to Veep and how she is satisfied with how the series ends: “I’m very somewhat grief-stricken to say goodbye to it because it was a total endeavor of passion and love. I love this gig more than I can possibly articulate.”

“I think I reached a lot of people. I was able to raise a lot of money for women who have had mastectomies, who need reconstruction but insurance doesn’t cover that, and I was really happy to be able to do that. The outpouring of support was quite overwhelming,” Julia said.

She later added that an important part of her treatment was her laughter from her kids and Veep coworkers.

“It helped me get through chemotherapy in a big way,” Julia explained.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Dishes on the 'Veep' Finale

Entertainment Weekly is highlighting HBO’s Veep with these twelve new covers featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her co-stars!

Here’s what Julia had to share with the mag…

On the finale: “It is the perfect bookend to the series. It makes sense on so many levels for every single character. […]it’s as dark as it could possibly be while, I hope, remaining very funny. But it’s incredibly dark.”

On what she said to the cast amid her cancer battle: “And not to get too maudlin, you should know that this was a great, in fact, lifesaver for me during my illness. And the idea of coming back her to do this glorious thing was a tonic, to say the least.”
