Matthew McConaughey Defends His Stance on 'Illiberals' While Talking Political Divide in the U.S.

Matthew McConaughey is once again talking politics.

During a new interview with Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain, the 51-year-old actor criticized the “illiberal left” for preventing confrontations by silencing opposing views.

“We need liberals, what I don’t think we need is illiberals,” Matt shared. “What I don’t think some liberals see is they’re being cannibalized by the illiberals. There are extremes on both sides that I think are unfair… the extreme left and extreme right completely illegitimize the other side. They exaggerate the other side’s stance into an irrational state that makes no sense. That’s not fair.”

Matt then went on to say that he feels confrontation makes democracy work “really well,” but according to him, there isn’t enough confrontation happening right now.

“I would argue we don’t have true confrontation right now, confrontation that gives some validation and legitimizes the opposing point of view,” Matt explained. “We don’t give a legitimacy or validation to an opposing point of view, we make it persona non grata, and that’s unconstitutional.”

This is now the second time Matthew McConaughey has shared his views on the “illiberal left” and last time people did not react well to his comments.

Matthew McConaughey's Daughter Vida Makes Rare Appearance in Video Interview With Him

Matthew McConaughey had a very special guest join him for his latest video interview – his daughter, Vida McConaughey.

The 10-year-old daughter of Matthew and Camila Alves got to chime in on a question he was asked about the one lesson he’s learning over and over again.

“We learn lessons — we know they’re right, we know they’re true, [but] activating them and having them instinctively become a habit is a different thing,” Matthew starts out, and when he’s not able to come up with something, he calls in Vida, who answers for him.

“What do I keep repeatedly having [to be] like, ‘Ah, I have to learn that one again?’ ” he asks her as she sits on his lap.

Vida answered, “Trusting, I guess, when you correct us. A lot of times you’ll correct us and then you’ll come back and you explain why you corrected us. But usually, we’re just like…”

“‘We got it the first time,’” he finishes for her with a hearty laugh, to which Vida agrees, “Yeah.”

“Trusting that they got it the first time,” Matthew confirmed, turning back to the camera.

Matthew McConaughey Trends on Twitter for His Comments on the 'Illiberal Left' & Election Results

Matthew McConaughey is being called out on Twitter for his thoughts on the 2020 election and the far left.

“There’s a lot on that illiberal left that absolutely condescend, patronize and are arrogant towards the other 50 percent,” Matthew said to Russell Brand on his podcast.

Russell said there is a “kind of an offhandedness, of like, ‘Oh, they’re dumb, they’re voting for Brexit, they’re voting for Trump.’ I don’t like it, and I don’t like to hear it.”

“This is where the left misses it for me, just as far as being a marketeer of a political side,” Matthew said. “You say, ‘Hey, we want to get out the vote. We want people to go vote. We’re going to do a campaign to let people vote.’ I’m like, 100 percent. Yes, everyone. Is there anyone who would say no to that? That’s universal. You have 100 percent of the audience going, ‘I’m in. That’s a constitutional right as an American, I’m in. Yes!’”

“And then they can’t help themselves,” he added. “At the very end of it they go, ‘So, we don’t let those criminal b*stards get back in office!’ You’re like, ‘No! Don’t say the last part! You lost 50 percent of your audience.’”

Matthew then said that he believes this messaging is why “so much of the nation looks at us in Hollywood” and says “another celebrity over there, and the West Coasters, and the elite in the Northeast.” Matthew then said he believes the solution is meeting in the middle. “I actually think that is more of a dare than it’s ever been.”

During their chat, he spoke about whether he would consider running for Texas governor or another political run.

“I don’t know. I mean, that wouldn’t be up to me. It would be up to the people more than it would me. Look, politics seems to be a broken business to me right now. And when politics redefines its purpose, I could be a hell of a lot more interested,” he explained.

He added that he wants to “rebind our social contracts with each other as Americans,” recognizing the divide in the country, and how citizens “don’t trust each other.”

“As I move forward in life, yes, I am gonna consider leadership roles where I can be most useful. I’d love to. I’m doing that regardless,” he later said during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

If he were to consider a run for Texas governor, his earliest opportunity would be in 2022 when Greg Abbott is up for reelection. All of these celebrities also ran for political office.

Matthew McConaughey Recalls That 'Snotty' Kiss That Kate Hudson Said Was Her Worst On-Screen Kiss

Just a few months ago, Kate Hudson described one of her on-screen kisses with Matthew McConaughey as her worst ever, and now Matthew is responding to it.

Turns out that the kiss’s circumstances contributed to it not being the best kiss for either actors.

“When we were kissing, like, in the end of Fool’s Gold, we’re like in the ocean, we had the plane crash, he just had snot all over his face,” Kate shared during a podcast interview with Gwyneth Paltrow.

Now, Matthew is clarifying why there was the “snot”.

“In Fool’s Gold,” he explained. “It’s like, ‘OK, here’s the scene: You’re in the middle of the ocean. You go under the water, so on ‘Action,’ go into the water and then come up out of the water like you’re gasping for air. You’re glad to be alive! Then you look at each other and you swim to each other and go into an embrace.’”

Matthew added that there was “a lot of salt water and snot and all kinds of stuff that are in between all those, and so you’re doing that and you’re like, ‘OK, I think that worked, but did that look any good?’ They’re like, ‘No, we better do another take.’”

“So there were always, like, elements that made it harder to have a…We never got to have our nice romantic kiss yet,” he shared, joking that “there’s still time.”

Matthew just recently said that his first movie with Kate, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, is the movie he’d be on board for a sequel for.

Here’s what he said…
